Parade Prinzessin 2026 – Faye Marie O’Meara
My name is Faye Marie O’Meara. I was born and raised in Bavaria, near Munich. My mother is Bavarian and my father is from County Tipperary in Ireland. Growing up, my mother called us “Bairish”, both Bavarian and Irish in one. I think it describes me rather well.
Ireland and Bavaria are geographically separate, yet they share something essential. Both cultures are deeply rooted in their traditions and take pride in keeping these traditions alive. Music, festivals, language and sport are not simply customs. They create belonging and community.
When we share our separate customs they can ironically help build bridges and bonds. That is why celebrating St Patrick’s Day in Munich matters. It is an opportunity to share Irish culture and bring people together. By celebrating each other’s traditions, we strengthen the ties between people and create a shared understanding and appreciation for each other.
Last year I joined the GAA Club Munich Colmcilles. I had never played any Irish sport such as Camogie, Gaelic Football, or Handball before, so I was not very good at any of them. Still, I was welcomed with warmth and encouragement. Now the club is an important part of my life and I am very grateful for the people who decided to bring their culture to Munich and share it with anyone interested in participating.
When we stay open to new people and experiences, we have nothing to lose but get to discover a global community.
